The Importance of 12 Services
During the Cem ceremony, there are 12 service holders who perform specific duties. These services symbolize the order in the universe and the social division of labor:
- Murshid/Pir: The guide who leads the worship and shows the way.
- Rehber: Assistant to those entering the path and seekers.
- Gozcu: Ensures the peace and tranquility of the Cem.
- Zakir: Plays the baglama and recites hymns (deyiş).
- Süpürgeci: Responsible for the cleanliness of the Cem house, symbolizing purification.
